At Peak Design we believe in fostering diversity, inclusivity, and equity both within our team and within society at large.

The available paths for addressing inequities are many and there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. Since beginning our DEI journey, we’ve drafted and implemented new recruitment and hiring practices, increased women and BIPOC models in our marketing, conducted a wage gap analysis, conducted team and manager trainings, and increased our philanthropic giving to organizations working in environmental justice and diversity in the outdoors. Similar to our environmental journey, what once started as a distinct and separate area of work is now being woven into the way we do business. DEI, like sustainability, is a lens through which we analyze decision points and consider our impact.

We support organizations helping to increase access and inclusion in the outdoors and conservation, and to champion environmental justice.

This year, our Giving Tuesday campaign highlighted an Oakland, California-based organization, Planting Justice. Planting Justice has built over 550 edible permaculture gardens throughout the San Francisco Bay Area to provide low-income communities with fresh nutritious food. In addition, the organization intentionally employs people transitioning from prison, providing them holistic re-entry support. Transitioning from prison is challenging - finding a job, adequate housing, and proper social support often undermines lasting success. Planting Justice works within prisons to train prisoners on permaculture gardening and then upon release provides them with living-wage employment in the nurseries and gardens. They also provide peer support, comprehensive health benefits, and advancement opportunities to their employees to ensure their success in transitioning out of prison.
